Addisons Auctioneers forms part of Addisons Chartered Surveyors, established a century ago.
Antique and Fine Arts sales at Addisons have, since 1950 provided the dealers and private collectors of Teesdale and the North of England with a venue to buy and sell a wide variety of property.
The firm has close links with financial institutions, professional firms and private clients throughout the region, to all of whom they can provide a comprehensive service including pre-sale, probate and insurance valuations, house clearance and on-site house sales.
The Auction Rooms, purpose-built in 2003, provide a prestigious facility to host sales, conferences and other special events. The annual calendar includes regular auctions of Country Furniture, Antiques, Collectables and various specialist sales including country sports, wine, and works by regional artists and craftsmen.
Buying at Auction
Bids can be made in person or by placing a commission bid.
Bid in person on a sale day
Prospective buyers are required to register with Addisons Auctioneers and are consequently allocated a Buyer Number. Buyer’s details are treated as confidential.
Bid by commission (absentee bid) up to the evening before the sale. Commission slips are available at Reception.
Bid by telephone during the sale. They have telephone lines available for clients who are unable to attend the auction.
Absentee Bids
Absentee bids are subject to verification. Bids will be executed as cheaply as possible on your behalf, up to your stated value. The Buyer is responsible for contacting Addisons Auctioneers within 24 hours of the sale to find out if the bid has been successful. Goods must be paid for in full and collected by close of business the day following the sale, otherwise charges will be incurred for storage.
First Time Buyers
Please do not hesitate to ask a member of staff for friendly advice about bidding at auction.
Buyers Premium
All purchases are subject to a Buyers Premium of 15% on the hammer price on individual lots. Subject to VAT at the standard rate of 17.5%.
Payments
They accept the following methods of payment:
• Cash
• Cheque supported by a valid guarantee card
• Bank Draft
• Bank Transfer
• Credit Cards (Visa & MasterCard)
• Debit Cards
Please note there is a surcharge of 2% plus VAT on all credit card payments.
Packing of Goods
Whilst every effort is made to ensure that some packing materials and boxes are provided for their clients, they strongly recommend that you bring alternative materials with you to ensure you get your treasured items home in one piece!
Collection of Purchases
Goods must be collected by the end of the 2nd working day following the sale provided full payment has been made. If after 2 working days goods are not collected, storage will be charged. Current rate is small items, £3 per lot per day plus VAT, large items, £5 per lot per day plus VAT.
Selling at Auction
Vendors commission is charged at three different tiers.
10% plus VAT on lots £50 and over
15% plus VAT on lots between £11 and £49
20% plus VAT on lots up to £10
Unsold lot fee £3 plus VAT
Vendors whether you are selling a single item, or an entire estate, Addisons look forward to advising you on how auction can work for you.
All vendors are required to register with Addisons Auctioneers. Upon registration, you will be allocated a unique Vendor Number. All client details are treated as confidential.
Pre-Sale Valuation
One of their auctioneers and valuers would be delighted to visit you at home or in the Auction Rooms to provide you with a valuation. This valuation is free of charge and without obligation.
Please note that for probate estates, written reports including post sale results are provided free of charge.
House Clearance
No matter how many or how few items you are wishing to sell, one of their valuers will be pleased to give you a professional, comprehensive valuation and advice on the auction of your items.
Where possible, goods will be sold at the next monthly general or specialist sale.
Consigning / Transportation of Goods
Their saleroom is open Monday – Friday 10am – 5pm to receive goods. In addition, they offer a collection service throughout the Dales, Darlington and the North East, cost £35 per hour. A detailed quotation for this service can be provided upon request.
Upon collection / delivery of goods, you will be issued with a property receipt together with the terms and conditions for the sale. Items are stored prior to a sale without charge.
Electrical Testing
To comply with current Trading Standard Legislation, an approved Electrician must test all electrical items entered for sale. The fee per item is £4.50. This is payable even if the items fail the test.
Insurance
All goods are covered under our their policy. There will be charge for this of 0.75%.
Reserves
A reserve is the minimum price at which you are prepared to sell an item. A valuer will be happy to advise you about placing a reserve. Should your goods fail to meet the reserve they can be entered in a future sale or withdrawn from Addison’s records. It is the responsibility of the vendor to check if an item has sold for a reserve price or has been withdrawn from sale.
Advertising
Auctions are advertised using local and regional press, and specialist publications. Details of sales and highlights list are available on this web site. They also have an extensive database, enabling us to announce sales to collectors.
After the Sale
A Vendor Statement detailing the results of each of your individual lots is forwarded to you together with payment approximately 28 days after the sale. This statement also details the auction commission and any other charges that have been incurred and consequently deducted from the proceeds of the sale. Payment is made by cheque.
