Established in Sheffield since 1840, Sheffield Auction Gallery (formerly ELR Auctions) and their team of Specialist Valuers are dedicated to giving independent and detailed advice on all aspects of Valuation and Auction Sale, with professionalism and Client confidentiality paramount.

FORTNIGHTLY ‘ANTIQUES AND COLLECTABLES’ AUCTIONS

These auctions, which take place in the ground floor saleroom each fortnight on a Fridays from 11am are a good mix of approximately 500 to 600 Lots and include everything from single items consignments, small collections and estate clearance; comprising Glass, European and Oriental Ceramics, pottery and porcelain, usually as single items i.e. Doulton and Beswick figurines etc to a good selection of tray Lots, such as tea and dinner services etc. Plus many Silver and Silver Plate items, Jewellery and Watches, Paintings and Prints, Mirrors, and all manner of Collectors Items, many Toys, box Lots of Linens, Mantle and other Clocks, many Books and Magazines.

There is always a good variety of Antique Furniture, from the Victorian and Edwardian period such as bedroom and dining room suites, tables, chairs, occasional furniture and upholstered items, plus some occasional earlier period items. This auction will also hold Later Modern and Reproduction furniture, Oak, Mahogany, Pine, Walnut, Rosewood, Satinwood etc.

The catalogues for these auctions are listed on both our website and specialist auction sites and notifications are mailed to comprehensive databases of buyers. They are also advertised within the local and trade press and other publications.

ELR's Valuations team is available in the Saleroom, Monday to Thursday between 10am and 4pm, for free pre-sale appraisals and advice.

QUARTERLY ‘ANTIQUE AND FINE ART’ AUCTIONS

These auctions traditionally take place in March, June, September and December, but occasionally there will be additional auctions as the volume of pieces suitable for theses auctions fluctuates. They take place in the ground floor saleroom and will usually hold between 400 and 600 Lots of single items and small collections to large country estates, consigned for auction from both private individuals to Solicitors and Executors of Estates from within the Derbyshire and South Yorkshire region.

These are specialist catalogued auctions comprising Glass, European Ceramics, Oriental Ceramics & Items, Silver Plate & White Metal, Silver, Jewellery, Watches, Maps, Engravings, Etchings, Lithographs, Limited Edition and Signed Prints, Watercolours, Oils, Textiles, Works of Art & Collectables, Statuary, Light fittings, Toys & Dolls, Mirrors, Scientific Instrument & Barometers, Clocks including Longcase, and fine, period Furniture.

We produce an illustrated, full colour, glossy printed catalogues for these auctions and they are listed on both our website and many specialist auction sites such as The Antiques Trade Gazette "The Saleroom.com", Invaluable and UKAuctioneers.com and notifications are mailed to our comprehensive databases of both Trade and Private buyers. They are also advertised within the Local, National and Trade press and other publications.

MONTHLY ‘MODERN FURNISHINGS AND COLLECTABLES’ AUCTIONS

These auctions, which take place in the first floor saleroom once a month from 1.30pm are a good selection of approximately 200 to 300 Lots and include many house clearance items; they comprise all types of modern household pottery and china, glass, more modern Collectables, there will be some single Lots but more commonly good tray and box lots, pictures and mirrors, books, records, sundry items.

The Furniture section contains good quality Reproduction Oak, Pine, Mahogany dining and bedroom suites, lounge and conservatory upholstered items such as three piece suites and beds, many Soft Furnishings and Household items plus Electrical goods such as televisions, fridge, freezers and washing machines etc plus exercise equipment and garden items like lawnmowers and benches etc.

The catalogues for these auctions are listed on both our website and specialist auction sites and notifications are mailed to comprehensive databases of buyers. They are also advertised within the local and trade press.

SPECIALIST ‘ANTIQUARIAN & MODERN BOOKS’ AUCTIONS

These auctions, which take place in the first floor saleroom are normally held three times a year and comprise approximately 300 to 400 Lots.

They include everything from single book consignments, to small collections and comprehensive library collections.

Since these regular sales began early in 2006 they have become increasingly popular and include many local interest Antiquarian Books, Modern First Editions, Children's Books and Annuals, illustrated books, plus many boxed Lots. Also covered in these sales are both UK and USA Comics, Annuals, Autographs, Photographs, Magazines, Film & Theatre Programmes, Playbills & Film and Theatre Posters.

SPECIALIST ‘PAINTINGS & PRINTS’ AUCTIONS

These auctions are usually held with the Quarterly Antiques Auctions however there will occasionally be additional auctions take place as consignments from Galleries and Museums are also accepted along with private Vendors from within the Derbyshire and South Yorkshire region.

These are specialist catalogued auctions comprising Watercolours, Oils, Prints including signed Limited Editions, Maps, Engravings, Etchings, Lithographs, Aquatints, Pencils, Pastels, etc plus very modern art and abstract works.

They include many works by well known local artists such as, Henry Epworth Allen, Paul Bertram, Edward Billin, A E Boler, Peter Coulthard, George Hamilton Constantine, Thomas Creswick, George Cunningham, Edwin La Dell, W R E Goodrich, Colin Graeme, Thomas Bush Hardy, William Highfield, Herbert Hill, William Ibbitt, George Outram, Charles and William Henry Piggott, Willie Rawson, Stanley Royle, Joe Scarborough, Herbert Slater, Kenneth Steel, John Gutteridge Sykes, Frank Saltfleet, John Trickett, Byron Winston Warmby etc.

BI-ANNUAL ‘FOOTBALL PROGRAMMES & SPORTING MEMORABILIA’ AUCTIONS

These auctions take place twice a year, in February and August and are held in the first floor saleroom. They contain anywhere from 500 to 800 Lots. They include everything from single items consignments and small collections to a lifetimes worth of collecting. They cover all sports such as Football, Rugby, Cricket, Fishing, Snooker, Golf, Tennis, Speedway, Motor Racing, Boxing, etc etc.

The Football items include many local, national and International clubs from single programmes and bound volumes of league and non-league clubs etc from all levels of the game. Pre-war memorabilia is of particular interest, including early Wisdens and old sporting photographs.

Since ELR started holding these specialist auctions in 2000 their popularity has soared and has become one of the largest, well attended auctions in the region.

SPECIALIST ‘MEDALS & MILITARIA’ AUCTIONS

These auctions take place twice a year, in February and August and are held in the first floor saleroom. They have grown steadily in popularity and now hold approximately 100 to 200 Lots.

ELR have two Specialist Valuers covering the sections of this sale;

The Specialist Valuer covering the Militaria section; including, knives, swords, powder flasks, binoculars, books, badges, photographs, bayonets, rifles, uniforms pistols and other arms and weaponry plus other associated collectable items; is available in the Saleroom, Monday to Thursday, for free pre-sale appraisals and advice, however it is recommended that an appointment is made to ensure that he is available and has the appropriate amount of time to appraise your items.

The Specialist Valuer covering the Medals section holds two Valuations and Appraisal Days by appointment in the Saleroom prior to each auction. If you are not able to attend in person prior to these days you are welcome to bring items in Monday to Thursday, where the Valuations team will ensure that the Valuer sees them during his visit.

SPECIALIST ‘POSTCARDS, COINS, STAMPS, CIGARETTE CARDS & BANKNOTES’ AUCTIONS

These auctions take place twice a year, in February and August and are held in the first floor saleroom. Since ELR started holding these specialist auctions in 2000 their popularity has soared and has become one of the largest, well attended auctions in the region.

SPECIALIST ‘TOYS, GAMES & DOLLS’ AUCTIONS

These auctions take place three times a year, and are normally held in the first floor saleroom.

Items included in these very popular sales range from Train Sets, board and other Games to Die-cast, Tin-plate, Corgi, Lima, Tri-ang, Airfix, Meccano, Dinky, Dolls inc Armand-Marseille, Simon & Halbig etc, Pelham Puppets, Automatons, Clockwork, Schuco, Hornby, Dublo, Wrenn, Bing, Teddy Bears inc. Steiff, Chad Valley, Merrythought etc.
