Current and impending UK legislation to implement the EU Landfill and WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) Directives means that dumping computers into a skip will not be an option.

Disposal must be environmentally sound, and, to ensure that your data is completely safe, carried out to high security standards.

RecommIT is currently project managing the disposal of computers and IT equipment from one of the world's largest desktop replacement programmes, involving over 100,000 machines.

We are contracted to the Ministry of Defence, the Department for Work and Pensions and other Government Departments to remove sensitive data.

We assess whether the equipment is suitable for re-use and sale, or whether it needs to be broken down and disposed of in an environmentally acceptable way.

We maintain a complete audit trail from receipt through to final solution.

Established in 1997, RecommIT was a pioneer in working with the Department for Education and Skills in the location, collection, sanitisation, refurbishment and redistribution of surplus IT from the public sector into areas of social need to bridge the digital divide.

Since then RecommIT has won a wide range of disposal contracts in the public and private sectors, including:

- the Ministry of Defence where we provide a wide range of IT support services as well as the refurbishment and recycling of surplus and redundant computers throughout the United Kingdom

- the Department for Work and Pensions in the largest UK desktop replacement involving over 100,000 machines

We are registered to ISO 14001 – the environmental quality standard and an accredited WEEE Refurbishment and Recycling member of the Industry Council for Electronic Equipment Recycling (ICER).

Re-use
RecommIT's does not regard it as acceptable to pass equipment for recycling without first exhausting all possibilities for re-use. We always endeavour to make maximum use of the equipment including inter-changing or replacing minor components and undertaking other upgrading measures.

Data Purging
RecommIT is an approved Government contractor and its security procedures and data purging methods are subject to audit by its agencies. Recommit handles the disposal and data purging of all MOD computers. Data purging is undertaken in accordance with instructions issued by Government Communications Headquarters (GCHQ).

Fair Return
We return to clients a fair and agreed amount from the sales of their equipment. We would be happy to work with you to establish a staff sale facility.

Full reporting
The RecommIT service includes comprehensive reporting including out turn audit, recycling and sales reports.

Risk Transfer
RecommIT assumes liability for all equipment once it is removed from the customer's premises. In addition RecommIT assumes liability for its re-use products including any damage and injury caused by faulty electrical goods.

RecommIT will sort and assess, refurbish, and dispose of faulty electrical and electronic equipment or items unsuitable for redeployment. Unserviceable and unsaleable items will be disposed of in line with the impending legislation in an environmentally sensitive manner.

Quality Standards
RecommIT is ISO 14001 (Environmental Management System) registered and is a member of the Industry Council for Electronic Equipment Recycling (ICER). It conforms to ICER Codes of Practice and only operates with partners and agents who abide by current national and European Legislation and other relevant guidelines regarding re-use and environmental disposal of electrical and electronic waste. RecommIT operates an Environment Agency (EA) Licensed Waste Management Site and is licensed by the EA as a Waste Carrier.

Collection

RecommIT offers collection of all surplus, redundant or waste IT equipment, irrespective of condition or specification. This service is tailored to meet your requirements and convenience. All equipment is checked against your inventory. We can also provide on-site auditing. We supply vehicles, pallets, suitable wrapping and undertake loading. Upon delivery to our Facility reports are generated to meet customers needs including asset tracking by serial and inventory number if required.

RecommIT is contracted to the Ministry of Defence and has a security clearance that qualifies us to handle classified and other sensitive data.

Disposal

Should any equipment fail our rigorous testing, it will be recycled or disposed of in accordance with current environmental regulations. We sanitise the data, salvage useable components and recycle and/or dispose in an environmentally sensitive manner in line with Industry Council for Electronic Recycling (ICER) Guidelines and the EU Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive (WEEE).

Storage

Once all the equipment has passed through our detailed refurbishment process it is boxed, palletised and shrink-wrapped for protection. It is then stored in our secure warehouse facility ready for reuse.
