Tunstall, Stoke-on-Trent. Manufacturer of earthenwares, basalt, jasper, ironstone wares under various styles from 1769 -

Early wares made before 1780 would not seem to be marked.

The Adams family of Potters
The Adams family had potteries in Staffordshire as early as 1650.
At that date two brothers, William and Thomas
had separate ventures in Burslem.

Such family activity continued for many years. William Adams and Company, with large potteries in Tunstall was managed by members who were the 11th and 12th generations in direct descent from the original 17th century Adams of Burslem.

Whilst there is no longer an Adams pottery, some of their designs are still produced with their backstamp under the Wedgwood Group name. Adams joined the Wedgwood Group in 1966.

Unknown

W. Adams does not appear to have ever worked at Etruria and there does not appear to have been a different W. Adams.

Is it possible that "Etruria" was a pattern name??

I have a plate black with either handpainted or transfer of 4 horses with 2 women rifing looks like a mythology scene I think with a gold rim. On the back it has a crown with "The Adams E or L ( not sure if e or l ) then TruscanWare England Estd 1657 written around it. Does anyone have any idea where its from and how far it dates back? I have been searching online for years and can not find anything and also have never seen that particular mark. If anyone can tell me anything about this, it would be much appreciated. I could send pics . If you have any info, please contact me at maddy1970@gmail.com Thanks !

I have a very colorful small tureen and underplate with the unknown belt mark listed first, but it has the word Brighton in the center rather than Etruria. The pattern is transferware and hand painted, with perhaps a mythologica themel. It has a wide pink band with thinner turquoise and black bands around the edges. There are two round emblems with crossed fish in ochre and black and a rectangular vignette of men wearing fig leaves with a fish and two more men with horse heads. there are twining vines with green leaves circling the edges. I would love to know the name of the pattern, the date of manufacture and any value. Thank you mdes1@prodigy.net

I have a tiny plate and printed on back in brown is ESTB 1657,ADAMS, Turnstall, England. Then at the bottom in black is printed, scenes from"DICKENS" There appears to be a scene from "Oliver Twist", done in black transfer with same hand colored painting on the garments. I would love to know the history on this. If anybody can help I would appreciate. marcellalynette@comcast,net

I have a white stone platter with blue floral border and a printed scene on it with figures, trees, castle print on it. The back is stamped Columbia W.Adams & Sons, aged but no chips. I'm wondering what the value is of this platter and am interested in selling it.
